SUPPORTERS
How to get Involved
You’re keen to help, but not too sure about what you can do. Here are some ideas for companies, organisations and individuals.
Organisations and Companies:
There are many ways in which organisations can support our work, and in so doing receive benefits for themselves:
- If you are a commercial organisation with regular contacts with the developing world, sourcing images from majority world photographers, coupled with the licensing of our
kite mark, can strongly enhance your corporate social responsibility profile.
- If you are an organisation involved in development issues or ethical consumerism, such as a co-operative, an NGO or an international organisation, consider becoming a “product partner”. Differentiate your visual communications and products in an increasingly saturated market.
- If you are a foundation or trust whose concerns are addressed by our objectives and vision, please make contact with us.
- If you are member of a photographic school, club, association or organisation, your skills and resources can significantly benefit our photographers in many practical ways. Be it training programmes, internships, information-exchanges or simple discussions, your support can help your fellow photographers.
For more information, reach Colin Hastings [colin@majorityworld.org] or Rebecca Narracott [rebecca@majorityworld.org].
Individuals:
- Challenge publishers and editors: Identify publications (newspapers, magazines, travel brochures, websites) that publish images of the majority world. Tell them your concerns as a reader, and challenge and compel them to use images taken by majority world photographers on at least an equal basis. Please tell us about the reactions, successes or failures that you encounter so that we can in turn use that information to boost our campaigning.
- Question the source: When you buy any photographic product featuring images of the majority world, such as cards, calendars, diaries, post cards and posters, find out who is the photographer that your purchase is benefiting. Make a stand to retailers that you prefer to buy photographs of the majority world sourced from the majority world itself.
- Help with funding: Our plans are ambitious, and we need many different types of financing. Organising fundraising activities, making donations and asking your friends to make donations – these things all help. Also, please put us in touch with potential sponsors or trusts.
- Volunteer: Volunteer input is essential if we are to continue our activities efficiently. This includes important tasks such as database research, telephone follow-ups or even stuffing envelopes. Translators are always welcome as we are in contact with a wide range of countries. If you have a special skill, such as photo editing, retouching, keywording/metadata verification, technical expertise in high-quality scanning and database management, we hope you’ll share that skill with our photographers.
