Our Mission:
Our mission is to reveal, support, develop and promote indigenous photographers from the majority world* whilst making it easier for their work to be accessed by image buyers and the general public worldwide.
With majorityworld.com, majority world photographers will be in a better position to compete commercially and gain a fairer share of the global image market. With their images, we will also be able to offer an avenue for a more balanced and better-informed perception of the developing world.
The concept is strongly influenced by the principles of fair trade, and is implemented through trading, campaigning, fundraising and training activities, often done in partnership with other like-minded organisations and companies.
What is the majority world?
The majority world is the term we prefer to use for what is commonly referred to as the developing world, the third world, or the global south.
When referring to the portion of our global society which houses approximately 83% of the world’s population (Figure taken from World Bank statistics referring to low and middle income countries), we hope you will agree with us that it is more progressive to use the term ‘majority world.’
